Partnership is at the core of everything we do.

How We Engage Partners

Referral
Our partner program rewards you for every client you bring into the tree:

Secret Squirrel
Your customers deal with you directly — they'll never know we're the secret squirrels powering the operation. You bring the client relationship and industry knowledge; we bring the development muscle. Together, we deliver something neither of us could pull off quite as well alone.
Commercially, it's simple: we bill you at wholesale rates, you set your own pricing and bill your customer. Your margin, your call.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if a customer is a good fit?
Trust your instincts — if something feels like it could be better, it probably can be. Here are some classic signals to listen for:
- “We need an app” — always a good start
- “I wish this thing talked to that thing” — system integration is our bread and butter (or should we say, nuts and acorns)
- “We want to do more with AI — where do we even start?”
- They’re living in Excel spreadsheets or cobbling things together in SharePoint
- Someone on their team is copying and pasting, or double-entering data between systems
If you think you might be onto something but you’re not sure — just reach out. We’re always up for a chat, we won’t waste your time, and no opportunity is too small to have a conversation about. We’ll give you a straight answer on whether it’s something we can run with.
What kinds of companies do you partner with?
If you work with businesses that need software to do more, there’s probably a fit. Here are the types of partners we work with most:
IT Companies You keep the infrastructure humming — we handle the code. Whether it’s custom integrations, automation, or new software solutions, we work alongside you to solve your customers’ problems without stepping on your turf.
Marketing Agencies We build the journeys your campaigns deserve. From websites to web apps and everything in between, we help you deliver seamless, optimised customer experiences that make your work land even harder.
Website Design Agencies You own the design, the brand, and the SEO — we’re your backend engineering team. Custom integrations, WordPress plugins, AI-powered features — we slot in quietly and make your projects do more.
SaaS Providers Got customers with complex onboarding, automation, or integration needs that sit outside your core product? Let us fill the gap. We handle the tricky custom stuff so you can stay focused on your roadmap.
Development Agencies Need extra capacity without the overhead of hiring? We provide trusted, experienced, managed developers who know how to hit the ground running and deliver on time.
What information do I need to provide for a referral?
Just make the introduction — that’s it. Whether it’s a quick email cc or a phone introduction, simply put them in touch with us and we’ll take it from there.
No paperwork, no briefing docs, no fuss.
How does Code Squirrel handle referrals?
Once you make the introduction, we take it from there. Here’s what the process looks like:
- We reach out to your contact to schedule an initial meeting — you’re welcome to join if you’d like to stay close, or leave it entirely in our paws. (Don’t worry, we’ll take it easy on the Squirrel puns in the first meeting)
- In that first meeting, we get to know the customer and their needs — understanding the brief, making initial suggestions, and sharing relevant examples of what we’ve built.
- We take it from there — scoping, proposals, and everything else is handled by us, keeping you in the loop along the way.
What happens if a referral doesn't qualify, or is more complex than expected?
We’ll always talk to you first — before we say anything definitive to the customer. You made the introduction, and we respect that relationship.
Here are some examples of how we handle tricky situations:
An off-the-shelf solution might be a better fit
During discovery, we occasionally find that an existing product already does what the customer needs. If that’s the case, we’d rather point them in the right direction than oversell a custom build — but we’ll always run it by you before raising it with them.
In this case, there may still be an opportunity in building or tweaking an integration for them to connect their line-of-business platforms.
Integration options may be limited
Not every system plays nicely with others. When it comes to connecting applications, we work through our options in order of preference:
- First choice is always a proper API, MCP, or other officially supported integration method
- If that’s not available, we’ll look at database-level integration or import/export workflows
- AI-based solutions, bots, or scrapers are sometimes an option, but they come with caveats — we’d walk you through those before putting anything on the table with the customer
What if the customer asks how much it will cost?
Honest answer: it depends on the scope — but here’s how to set their expectations:
Initial consultation — free, no obligation Our first conversations and preliminary discovery are always at no cost. There’s no pressure to commit to anything beyond that.
Formal scoping starts from $1,800* If the customer wants a proper roadmap with itemised time and cost milestones, that’s where formal scoping begins. It’s an investment, but it’s what gives everyone confidence in the numbers before any serious money changes hands.
* The exact figure here can vary depending on the scope and complexity of the project – so if passing this number on to the customer, the “starts from” part is important.
“But how much does an app cost?” This is the question we get most often — and the honest answer is that it really depends. We can sometimes provide a ballpark range early on, but it’ll be broad by nature. Proper scoping is what turns a rough estimate into a number you can actually plan around, which is why we take it seriously.
How does billing work?
We keep it simple and fair — no large upfront payments, no lock-in contracts.
Most development agencies will ask for 50% or more of a project’s estimated cost before they’ve written a line of code. We don’t do that. We bill month-to-month, and our services come with either a 30 or 60 day cancellation notice period — that’s it.
Our customers work with us because they want to, not because they’re contractually obligated to. We think that’s how it should be, and it’s something worth telling your customers about.
How is partner commission paid?
Simply and quickly. Once your referred customer pays us, we pay you — typically within 7 days. No minimum payout thresholds, no clawback clauses, no waiting periods.
The paperwork is easy:
- You send us a tax invoice (GST inclusive) for your commission amount
- Optionally, we can provide a monthly purchase order from our end for you to reconcile against (this is most helpful on engagements with variable costs, but most tend to be fixed monthly amounts)
That’s all there is to it. You’ve done us a good deed in referring a customer to us – the least we can do is be quick and fair in paying your commission!
